September is a big month for new shafts at GolfBox Custom, with a new line and an exciting update of a well-known classic flowing into the True Spec fitting matrix.
The new Accra Shogun range features distinctive performance profiles, headlined by the intriguing Shogun Blue shaft, while the 2024 update of the iconic Mitsubishi Diamana Blue Board shaft has also been added to the glorious “wall of shafts” that features in our fitting studios.
Could these new shafts be the catalyst to help you hit the ball further, straighter and more consistently? The only way to find out is to try them at GolfBox Custom, because you won’t find them anywhere else.
ACCRA SHOGUN
The Shogun shaft line is Accra’s ultra-premium offering and the True Spec matrix picks up two unique performance profiles: Shogun Blue and Shogun Red.
Shogun shafts are made in Japan to super tight tolerances, achieved through Accra’s trademark Tornado Stabilisation Material. It’s a manufacturing technique that distributes the raw material used to construct a shaft consistently across its circumference, eliminating the potential of any “spine” flaws and ensuring the constant taper design generates optimal energy transfer at impact.
However, the most notable advance in the Shogun range comes via Accra’s new graphite technology. It’s called ACCelaron MX and is essentially five different materials woven together to form what Accra call “an ultra-lightweight 5K composite weave”.
It runs the entire length of the shaft and offers both a high modulus and high elasticity. While those characteristics are diametrically opposed, Accra manipulate the make-up of the composite to tune performance in the Shogun range.
It creates a faster recovery from a bent position to a straight position, boosting speed while also minimising the “ovaling” effect that occurs when the shaft recovers.
The net result is Accra Shogun shafts are stronger, more consistent from the core through to the outer layer, and offer a significantly better feel.
SHOGUN BLUE
The Shogun Blue shaft is the lighter and softer shaft of the two Shogun models. In fact, it’s one of the softest and most flexible shafts on the market, roughly translating to an L flex.
Why then, are Accra Shogun Blue shafts so popular among professionals competing on the World Long Drive Tour?
The answer, it seems, is the tremendous amount of flexibility and ultra-fast recovery the Shogun Blue shaft offers, along with an extremely low torque number.
It is unashamedly built for players chasing speed and those who like feeling the shaft load and unload. And weighing just 42g, the M0 version of the Shogun Blue shaft is super light and high launching.
However, chasing speed often means sacrificing consistencyand dispersion. To see if the Shogun Blue shaft will benefit you, visit a GolfBox Custom Master Fitter this September.
SHOGUN RED
The Shogun Red is a Tour-grade shaft that offers a dramatically different performance profile.
It features a very stiff butt section, which transitions into a moderately stiff mid-section before flowing into a stiffer tip.
It’s the most stable shaft in the Shogun line-up and is also the heaviest, which should see it launching much lower than the Accra Shogun Blue shaft. It will also offer a contrasting feel: its low-to-mid torque offers a smooth-feeling transition for players with aggressive swing speeds.
The Accra Shogun duo that has been added to the True Spec Fitting Matrix offer dramatically different feel and results. Which Accra shaft will suit your game? Test drive the Accra Shogun driver shaft line-up today at GolfBox Custom.
MITSUBISHI DIAMANA BLUE BOARD
Back in 2004, the original Mitsubishi Diamana Blue Board shaft was released at the PGA Tour season opener in Hawaii. Now, 20 years later, the iconic premium shaft receives a 2024 update.
Mitsubishi haven’t quite pressed Alt-Ctrl-Del to completely reboot the BB. It still offers a similar mid-launch, mid-spin profile and a classic smooth feel. On the outside, Mitsubishi have added some throwback surfboard and flower graphics that mirror the original Diamana Blue Board shaft.
But the new Diamana BB is anything but just a retro throwback because an innovative new carbon fibre construction ushers in a new era of performance.
A new XLink Tech Resin System allowed Mitsubishi engineers to reduce the amount of resin needed to bind the carbon fibre together, resulting in an improved feel without diminishing the strength and durability of the shaft. And the quantity of Mitsubishi’s Dialead carbon fibre up near the handle has been boosted to offer lower torque and more stability, while still maintaining a consistent energy transfer at impact.
