MIURA TC-202 IRONS

Whenever a new Miura iron lands at GolfBox Custom, the excitement in our fitting studios is palpable.

The famous Miura forged feel is different to anything in the game. And the Miura name has a certain mystique, due in no small part to the fact the boutique Japanese manufacturer has been quietly making some of the most iconic irons in the game since 1957.

Now, Miura’s renowned precision craftsmanship intersects with a few significant technological advancements in Miura’s new TC-202 iron.

Replacing the previous TC-201 iron, it’s the new flagship iron for Miura. And there’s plenty to talk about.

In the Miura line-up, the TC-202 occupies the gap between the MB-101 and CB-302 iron. The TC stands for tour cavity and the iron merges blade performance with the forgiveness of a cavity back design.

However, the TC-202 draws a fair amount of inspiration from the decade-old Miura CB-57 iron. It adopts a modified version of the CB-57’s T-weight bar, which sits in the rear cavity.

The T-weight allows for progressive centre of gravity placement in the TC-202 iron. It’s positioned lower on the long irons and gets progressively thicker and higher as the loft increases. The result is higher-launching long irons that are easier to hit and short irons equipped with a more penetrating and controlled trajectory, for precise approach shots.

While the T-weight bar moves the CG along the heel and toe axis to boost forgiveness, it also shifts the CG vertically. Compared to the TC-201, the new iron has more mass behind the hitting zone, which promotes more of a blade-like feel and enhances workability.

Meanwhile, the TC-202’s dual flange sole carries over from the TC-201. Additional relief has been taken out of the leading edge while the toe section has been made narrower — a design trait inspired by Miura’s KM-700 iron.

The combination improves turf interaction, particularly for players with a steep angle of attack, and shifts the CG of the iron closer to the centre of the head to increase stability and help square the club face at impact.

Crafted by Miura’s famous forging process and featuring a spin-welded hosel, the new TC-202 iron exudes the inimitable forged Miura feel.
